THE ARTIST

Salim Zerrouki

Salim Zerrouki, an Algerian author-illustrator known for his provocative style and unsettling humor, began studying graphic design at the School of Fine Arts in Algiers before wandering for a decade through the intricacies of advertising.

After the Tunisian revolution and with the aim of countering the rise of political Islam, he created his first caricature blog, titled "Yahia Boulahia." This blog featured a Salafist character issuing fatwas left and right to warn Tunisians about the dangers of the Islamization of society.

In 2018, he published his first comic book, "How to Get Rid of Us for a Better World," a practical guide to exterminating Arabs, which was a frank satire of Maghrebi societies, blending self-deprecation and dark humor.

In his second comic book, he tackles a more serious subject by denouncing European migration policy. "How to Succeed in Illegal Migration" bluntly portrays human degradation, based on true stories.
