Nedjma
Born in Khemisset in 1996, Nedjma is a multidisciplinary Moroccan artist and curator whose practice seamlessly interlaces personal and collective histories.
Currently based in Marrakech, her journey began in heritage conservation after graduating from ENAR, Rabat’s National School of Architecture.
However, it was a deeper desire to explore the intangible realms of human experience that ultimately led her to contemporary art.
At the core of Nedjma’s visual practice lies a profound connection to her roots in Zaer.
The landscapes of these ancestral lands, rich with cultural memory, serve as more than just a backdrop to her work—they are symbols through which she channels the emotional and psychological states of creating visual allegories of her inner world.
Characterised by a restrained yet striking colour palette, her process begins with the tactile immediacy of paper, before transitioning to the digital media where her works evolve into vibrant compositions.
Through this meticulous yet intuitive process, Nedjma creates visual narratives that defy linear interpretations of time and conventional logic.
Far from being confined to self-expression, Nedjma’s work offers reflections on the shared human condition.
Her pieces function as mirrors, capturing the visceral emotions, fragmented thoughts, and unspoken words that resonate within us all.
These visual allegories do not merely depict; they are an invitation to navigate our own emotional landscapes, they embody the ineffable.
As personal as it is universally resonant, Nedjma’s body of work offers a nuanced reflection on what it means to be a human.
